That depends on the kernel-tree you are using. The suse-patchset includes
the rtclight patch, which gives

[...]
# CONFIG_NVRAM is not set
CONFIG_RTC=y
CONFIG_RTC_LIGHT=y

[...]
Now with "RTC_LIGHT=y" you get a /proc/rtc, but all the system-interrupts
stay the way they were without RTC-support. AFAIK the patch was originally
developped by Nikita Schmid, one of the MILO hackers.
