Linux on AlphaServer 4000?

Hi,

I've been searching myself an inexpensive Alpha machine and think I
found one. I'd like to use it for development on Linux, perhaps
doing something on XFree as I'm a developer. Now before I buy this
thing, I'd like to know a few things.

- does Linux support this machine? It seems it should, using the
Rawhide option, but both Redhat 6.1 and Debian 2.1 don't seem to
have boot disks for it.

- do normal PCI-cards work, if the drivers are done right (like
softbooting graphic cards with x86 emulator etc.)?

- is SMP supported if I get another processor?

- any other things I should be aware?

The investment is not too big, but I'd rather not waste my money on
something I just can't use. Running OpenVMS isn't actually what I
had in mind... :)
