Please give me a hint. I've poured over the documentation and the
HOW-TO's and have run out of ideas.
I have a DEC AlphaServer 1000 4/233 with V5.4-101 firmware and all
the latest I/O option firmware as well. I need to load linux on this
machine. I am attempting to load RedHat 6.2
If I use SRM to try to boot from either the kernel floppy:
>>> boot dva0 -flags 0 or CD #1
>>> boot dka400 -file /kernels/generic.gz -flags root=/dev/scd0
the system begins comming up without error, and goes into aboot then
ALWAYS:
aboot: loading compressed kernels/generic.gz...
aboot: ok, now starting the kernel...
halted CPU 0
halt code = 6
double error halt
PC = fffffc000031b24c <-- every time so
Now if I try to use ARC (NT) and MILO (unsupported, but the CD has
/milo/mikasa.gz and /milo/images/mikasa.img and the AlphaServer 1000 4/233
"is" mikasa) after setting up and confirming the ARC floppy boot selector
without error booting from MILO FLOPPY ALWAYS YIELDS:
System Partition is OSLOADPARTITION=eisa(0)disk(0)fdisk(0)
Load File Name is OSLOADFILENAME=\milo
Load Path is eisa(0)disk(0)fdisk(0)\milo

and that's all she wrote. At this point the system hard freezes forever
and has to be power cycled.
Any clues, even the name of a good list to post this to or a good website
at which to do further research would be greatly appreciated.
