I have a request totally motivated by self interest, but I think it may
be of benifit for the alpha port anyway :-). I had hoped to play around
with linux on the alpha using my employers computers. I actually got the
32 bit kernel from DEC to boot on our 3800, but alas, it does not seem
that this machine is supported anymore so I find myself alphaless. I think
it would be benificial (especially for me :-)) if someone (DEC?) could put
an alpha running Linux on the net that alphaless people like myself could use.
This would allow me^H^H us to play around with the alpha port, and to port
other packages to that platform. It would also be a good way to generate
interest in the port, and to answer the question 'hows the alpha port comming'.
Of course it would be a great way to stress test the machine if you were
to post something like 'login to an alpha running linux' on comp.os.linux.misc.

Anyway, its probably a bit premature to do something like this, but I
thought I would kick the idea out for people (with extra alpha's) to think
about.

Thanks,

Jim
