Thanks to the wonderful folks at Yggdrasil, the BLADE distribution of
the Linux operating system for the Digital Alpha microprocessor is now
available on CD-ROM. It is on Disc 5 of their new 5-CD "Linux Internet
Archives" set.

The version of BLADE that is on the CD does not support installation
directly from CD; that version requires that you copy the components
onto floppy disk and install them from floppy. Fortunately, however,
a CD-installation upgrade has been released. The upgrade consists of
a two-disk subset which is installed instead of the "b" subset
as the initial root file system. The system is then rebooted, and
all of the BLADE subsets (including the "b" subset) may be installed
from CD-ROM.

The CD-installation upgrade is available via anonymous FTP from:

gatekeeper.dec.com:/pub/DEC/Linux-Alpha/1.2-64bit/BLADE

Obtain the files:

cdi1 - 1.44Mb Floppy image of the CD install subset (1of2)
cdi2 - 1.44Mb floppy image of the CD install subset (2of2)
install_guide - Updated installation guide with CD-install
instructions

[note that these files may not appear until approximately 0600 GMT on
Saturday, 15 July 1995. If you don't see them in the archive, be patient]

The Internet Archives CD-ROM set is available for $19.95+shipping from:
