Kernel Rebuild & Status...

Up & running. I've now scrapped the BLADE stuff and have dave's 1.3.18
kernel running linux binaries compiled up from slackware source. (even got
the apachie httpd running! :-) )

Everything I've tried seems to be ok bar 2 points;

a) recompiling the 1.3.18 kernel with patches goes through ok, but on=
booting,
it gets to the point where it's initialised virtual memory and is about
to jump to the linux kernel, then stops.... ?? Help!

b) Can't seem to make mkswap run. There seems to be a problem with=
statically
linking the mem* commands (???) , but even after frigging, the compiled=
=20
program gives a memory fault.

Just for the record;
Compiled (i.e. the following worked fairly easily):
file-3.14
fileutils-3.12
findutils-4.1
flex-2.5.2
gzip-1.2.4
kbd-0.90 (oh the joy of a properly mapped keyboard!)
ncurses-1.8.6
sh-utils-1.12
tar-1.11.2
testutils-1.9
bash-1.14.4
bison-1.22
apachie_0.6.5
sysvinit
procps
Byte benchmack suite.

Board:
noname - 166Mhz - PCI 256kCache , 32Mb RAM.
Rating: 75,000 drhystones (II) - same speed as a P90.
Cost: =A3900 (incl cache) , about twice the price of a P90.
!!!!

I guess the real question is, where did all that speed go? The motherboard
manual quotes 330,000 dhrystones on the 166Mhz Chip..... :-(
