Compile of BYTE benchmarks (the suite);
P75 - 0:24 seconds, 66,666 dhrystones.
Alpha - 1:51 seconds, 75,000 dhrystones.
I think it's safe to say that a little optimisation in the compiler/kernel
is going
to make a useful difference. Someone was saying that the OSF compiler
compiles to
full 64bit and gcc only to 32bit - hence the speed difference on the
dhrystone integers,
linux is doing 2 calcs for every 1 under OSF.... likely?
