Linux can already use OSF/1 shared libraries -- it just can't generate them.
The chance of us ever building our own shared libraries that are compatible
with OSF/1 are slim.

I don't think there's much advantage to using ECOFF under Linux at all. I'd
personally rather see ELF prevail as the Linux Alpha format. It would reduce
both the development and maintenance work required and make the intricacies
of symbol resolution the same between platforms, as you should be able
to use the same ld.linux code.
