If this is my original ext2fs patch, then it is outdated by the current
(unreleased) set of ext2fs tools. I sent my patch to Ted, and a lot
(all?) of the functionality of my original patch already is in the
latest ext2fs programs (and I _know_ he has cleaned up at least the type
handling quite a lot).

I know my patch prompted Ted to test cross-compilation of the ext2fs
tools (which he had meant to do anyway), and he has tested it at least
on SunOS. That wouldn't have taken 32/64-bit things into account, but
those were actually the smallest part of the patch (much more of my
patch was doing the file writing and the general cross-compilation
things). And I know Ted tried to have the things work on different word
length machines (it actually looks like he even tried to make it run on
DOS with 16-bit ints and 32-bit longs..)

NOTE! The latest ext2fs programs haven't really been released, but you
can find them on tsx-11.mit.edu (and mirrors) in the ALPHA directory.
Please heed the readme which says:

The contents of this directory are for ***development*** efforts
only. Under no circumstances should these sources be included in
CD-ROM distributions, or other binary distributions.

I suspect that Ted would be more than happy to have it tested for the
alpha and possibly change the above restriction if it works well (as
there is currently no other public release which works at all on the
alpha).
