Smail on Alpha

If anyone is looking at smail on Alpha (unless they have done the
work), then hold off for a bit... I am looking at it now, and will
roll my changes into the smail development tree.

[However as a clue, smail checks all alloc/free operations to
make sure you aren't tramping on memory. It does this by putting
a signature at the front of all memory blocks, and by doing this
forces all these blocks to be aligned to an odd multiple of
4 bytes - ie it moves a correctly aligned block up by 4 bytes]
