this question comes up regularly (perhaps I ought to put it
into the MILO FAQ/HOWTO). Yes, Milo is firmare, consider it rather like
LILO + BIOS. The main alpha part of Milo is the PALcode, the thin layer
of special code that does low level stuff like page table turning and
exception handling/packaging on an Alpha. The PALcode that Milo uses
(and therefore any Linux kernel that boots via Milo) is based on evaluation
board PALcode and all of these are PCI based. To support Jensen, with
it's different I/O map and interrupt handling would require more or less
a re-write of one of the PALcode modules (platform.S). Right now, I
would prefer to spend time on boards like the EB164, the 21164 based system
rather than on older boards/systems like Jensen.
