gcc-2.7.1 & Linux Kernel 1.3.53

I have two problems. I think the first one might be related to if not
causing the second.

1. I am having some trouble compiling gcc-2.7.1. It returns the following
error:
collect2: bfd_canonicalize_symtab failed

I am using the latest libs & incs from ftp.azstarnet.com as well as both
of the patch files. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

2. I have been unable to boot 1.3.53 kernel. I get the following error:
unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address
ffffdc00103cc930
swapper(1): Oops 0

Is this because I am still using gcc-2.7.0?
