ramdisk not loading the root.

Hi all,
I am in the middle of installing blade 0.3 and Linux kernel 1.3.48 on a
cabriolet w/TGA card. The problem: the root is not loading into the ramdisk
after typing "boot fd0:vmlinux.gz root=/dev/fd0 ramdisk=1440" if I remove the
root floppy the system freaks*. So is it the kernel or MILO that is messing up?
If you know of a solution to my problem please reply to me, replying to
the list is at your discretion.
*=> freaks is a technical term for :
end_request: I/O error, dev 02:00, sector 1604
attempt to access beyond end of device
