Core dumps work fine provided the right version of the kernel and gdb
are used. I'm notoriously bad at history, so I won't even try to
recall when we fixed the kernel's core dump handling, but it was a
*long* time ago, so I'm fairly certain all Red Hat kernels should do
it right. The same is true for gdb, but since gdb hasn't been
included on CD-ROMs so far (Erik, correct me if I'm wrong), it's
possible that the gdb you have doesn't do the right thing.

The eb164 problem sounds like a cache problem. I have seen very
similar problems when running my cheap Noname cache chips at (their
rated) speed of 15ns. Slowing things down to 20ns fixed it. But I
supposed it might also be a consistency problem (e.g., with the TLB or
the icache), but since Linus has an eb164 himself, I tend to think he
would have fixed potential problems in this area already.
