The behaviour of named pipes /fifos changed around then and broke
SysVinit. I see there is a 2.59 version in:-
ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/devel/axp/RedHat/RPMS/SysVinit-2.59-2.axp.r
pm
but I don't know whether that fixes the problem. Version 2.60
definitely will fix the problem, but you'd have to grab the source
and rebuild it yourself. I'm not so bleeding edge on alpha kernel's
so have only seen this on i386. However I am running a patched 2.59
SysVinit on i386 which I got from the RedHat contrib stuff so I would
hope the one I reference above is fixed!
