Strange Problems with login

Hi.

I had upgraded from 1.3.81 to 1.3.91 and in general everything runs
fine, execept, that I'm no longer able to login via telnet or console
login. Strangely xdm works and I could work on it, also rlogin doesn't
work. Does anybody seen this on his/her system too?

Any suggestions are welcome. I don't like to upgrade every kernel
only every decade of it :)
