Just installed Redhat Linux 2.1 over NFS after downloadng it from
Sunsite Northern Europe. I've put it on on a 275MHz Cabriolet system
which is very similar to the one Quant-X has on special offer on their
web site, reportedly turning in 264 SPECfp92. The machine is on trial
for its number crunching ability.
I compiled one of my workhorse programs (ODE solver) using gcc2.7.1 and
found that it runs half as fast as on my unremarkable Pentium 90MHz
Linux box. This seems to be the worst case but I would say that I'm only
getting at most twice the speed of the Pentium. Lots of other code I've
tried dumps core with
Arithmetic trap at 00000001200007dc: 08 etc.
This also happens when using f2c.
I'm ceratinly not getting near 260 SPECfp92. Can anyone tell me how to
increase the performance of this machine?
Thanks,
Mark
