Thought this would be of interest. I will update the FAQ with the
driver info and, if nobody beats me to it, integrate the new BFD-based
depmod/modprobe with the insmod (or find some other way to combine
those utilities into a single package).

Thanks, Manabe!

Enjoy,

Hello, I'm a newcomer to Linux/Alpha world.

Thank you for your Linux/Alpha FAQ, it is helpful for me.

I'm very glad to report about a newly supported NIC and
the BFD-ized depmod/modprobe.

Recent kernel distributions contain new tulip.c that
works with Linux/Alpha. This driver supports smc9332dst,
smc8432, and other dc21x4x based cards. The de4x5.c driver
also supports dc21x4x based cards, but it does not work
with smc9332dst. By using the tulip.c driver, Linux/Alpha
newly supports smc9332dst (a.k.a. SMC EtherPower PCI 10/100).

The latest modules package is modules-1.3.69f.tar.gz and
it only supports ELF or a.out binaries.
We can insmod/rmmod modules using insmod-bfd-0.1.tar.gz,
but the depmod/modprobe doesn't support ECOFF binaries.
So, I BFD-ized depmod/modprobe and changed insmod-bfd-0.1
to use kerneld in Linux/Alpha systems. The URL to the page
about the BFD-ized depmod/modprobe is

Thank you.
