To help David MT and the other guys hacking on GNU libc for Linux/Alpha,
to get more ppl trying out glibc, I decided to build rpms of it...
You can find them on: nova.campus.luth.se/pub/linux/axp/glibc/RPMS.
For the brave ones that like to compile their own stuff there is also
SRPM so you can recompile it.
Be sure to read _all_ the REAME's under the glibc tree. And just to remind
you, its _BETA_ software so its not 100% functional.
Bug reports about these packages should be made to axplinux-libc@azstarnet.com
and _NOT_ to the gnu guys.
The version number says "960609", but thats the because the main tar-archive
untars as that. It is patched to 960610 at the moment. And adding newer
patches to it is easy.
Why do you want to install these packages? First, to find out if I messed
up when I packaged it ;) , second for _you_ can start to recompile your
programs against glibc and help findout any problems. Just installing
this package and not recompile any bins won't do any anything. So if you
don't like compiling/debugging programs, wait a week and I will have some
precompiled (.axp.rpm) packages of the most important packages.
I will start to recompile many of the normal redhat rpms against GNU libc
this next week and put on the ftpsite. To speedup the process a little I
will make a writable dir (/pub/linux/axp/glibc/incoming) where any1 that
wants to help with 'porting' rpms can put their stuff. Be sure to include
a .README about any changes you needed to do against the original srpm.
Happy hacking!
