Olaf,

David's patches contain *many* other things than the bigfile/bigdisk changes,
which I think are causing the problems you're running into.

I'll make available just those bigfile/bigdisk patches I sent to David, in:

gatekeeper.dec.com:pub/DEC/Linux-Alpha/X11/bigfiles-2.0.0.gz

These drop onto a pristine linux-2.0 source tree, and work for me... :-)

Note that this patch file may not show up for a while, but should be there
by tomorrow...
