Craftworks Linux/AXP?

I'm considering switching from Red Hat to Craftworks Linux to run on
an Alpha (Multia) system. Primarily because I want to do C++
development, and Craftworks seems to be the only way of getting C++ on
Linux/AXP.

My two questions are:
1. does anyone have any experiences with Craftworks Linux/AXP to
relay? and
2. is this truly the only way currently of getting a C++ compiler?
