I think the problem is the disk controller the 1740 is an older
controller and is most likly having problems with the new fast scsi
interface. I had the same problem with a number of 4GB drives.
Unfortunatly it seems that the forks at adapetc do not know of this
problem and since it is in a DEC Alpah PC they were unable to help. In my
machine DEC had installed there own firmware on the controller card and
so I was unable to use the latest frimware and config utils from adaptec.
Dec support was unable to help me also. So in short you seem to have only
2 options:
- get a new disk controller
- use older SCSI drives
