Thank you to those who responded to my request for drive geometry details for
the RZ26L disk. I actually received two different specifications; the one I
went with was
cylinders = 2570
heads = 14
sectors = 57

this corresponded with information that a colleague got from a source at
Digital.
The disk works fine with these settings , albeit a little noisily at times.

Once again, many thanks to the group as a whole for coming to my rescue.
