IIRC Jay Estabrook said some time ago he was working on that. I
don't know if he follows this list, try emailing him
(jestabro@amt.tay1.dec.com, again IIRC).

A big patch (Richard Henderson, IIRC for a third time) was
submitted to Linus yesterday. I think the patch includes some changes to
ext2 as well as some general alpha cleanup, among other things.
