----- ORIGINAL MESSAGE -----
I'm a newcomer to Linux (and Unix) and am currently trying to set up a
UDB with RH Linux. I'm using the official RH Rel 5 f/ Alpha. I have an
external SCSI-2 HD & CD-ROM. both seem to work OK.

I created the three disks required for MILO install, loaded the first
disk, typed
MILO> boot fd0:vmlinux.gz root=/dev/fd0 load_ramdisk=1

I got to the console, went through fdisk to create the necessary
partitions, and began the install using the default selections. Done
this 9-10 times so far! Each time the setup program bombs after giving
me some message. The most common has been -

error -3 reading header no such file or directory
install exited normally
sending termination signals ...done
sending kill signals ...done
unmounting file systems ...

And then the system dies. What am I doing wrong?

---- UPDATE ON BOMBING INSTALL -----

Thanks to Michael Jaegermann and Michael Larocque for their assistance.

I updated the ramdisk.img file from the RH Errata site and used the
following to load MILO -
MILO> boot fd0:vmlinux.gz root=/dev/fd0 load_ramdisk=1 prompt_ramdisk=1

Again, got to the console, "fdisk"ed my drive, got the installation
procedure, and then BOMBED again (3x)! What the #$%^#$! The following
text/warnings showed up each time all over the install progress meter -

----- FIRST TIME -----
install exited abnormally - received signal 11
sending termination signals ...done
sending kill signals ...done
unmounting file systems ...
/mnt/usr/local
/mnt/rhimap
/mnt/usr/src
/mnt/share
/mnt/home
/mnt/tmp
/mnt/usr
unmount failed /mnt/var
unmount failed /mnt/
/proc
you may safely reboot your system

----- SECOND TIME -----
Kernel panic: Free list corrupted
(that's it! after that console locked up)

----- THIRD TIME -----
install exited abnormally - received signal 11
sending termination signals ...done
sending kill signals ...done
unmounting file systems ...
/mnt/usr/local
/mnt/rhimap
/mnt/usr/src
/mnt/share
/mnt/home
/mnt/tmp
/mnt/usr
/mnt/var
/mnt/
/proc
you may safely reboot your system

----- -----

That last line is like rubbing salt in an open wound!!! Again, any help
will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,

Clueless,
Samir.
