Thanks very much. You solved a mystery and got a newbie out of trouble!
One other question on a slightly different topic: I couldn't find a
recent 2.1 kernel AXP-diff, so I built 2.1.108 as-is, using the .config
that came with RH5.0 and the default answers to new questions. (Well, a
few other changes to get it to build and run at all.) Oh- and using egcs
1.03a.
(Yes, I figured I'd go straight for the bleeding edge deep end! But
there are good reasons too- I was getting a lot of internal compiler
errors making some programs with gcc that went away with egcs, and emacs
compiled by gcc 2.7.2.3 shut down after 30 seconds- maybe 5 minutes with
-nw; no such problems since I re-built with egcs. So I'll never go
back!)
The problem: in console mode, it gives me uncontrollably spewed errors of
the type:
CPU[0]: where [fffffc0003174dc] glocked[1] gicnt[1] licnt[1]
where the gicnt and licnt numbers switch between 1 and 2. I can
function, but it's a real pain until I start up X- especially when the
system crashes during a disk access and I have to run e2fsck with this
error spewing by!
Has anyone seen this kind of error? Any idea what might be wrong with my
kernel configuration? Or is there a diff/patch I'm missing?
Thank you for any help at all!
