The fix: unsetenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH . This solved everything- now glibc
builds and installs (apparently) cleanly. I guess there was something
funky in /usr/local/lib, which I had at the front of my
LD_LIBRARY_PATH. Oh well.
Oh- one little bug in glibc: crypt/sysdeps/unix/crypt_util.c tries to
#include <bits/libc-lock.h>, but bits/ needs to be removed (see the
ChangeLog).
