My goodness, no replies yet?

Okay, here are a few good Alpha OEM URLs: http://www.dcginc.com/ ,
http://www.microway.com/ , http://www.polywell.com/ ,
http://swt7.swt.com/ , http://www.carrera.com/ , http://www.aspsys.com/
. My group bought from Microway and we like our box, but you can
generally get better prices from DCG and Polywell; and if you'd like to
build it yourself, DCG is probably the way to go.

If you're interested in building a high-performance parallel cluster,
check out: http://www.redhat.com/extreme/ and
http://cnls.lanl.gov/avalon/ on Beowulf systems, and for solving PDEs,
there's a great bunch of tools from Argonne in a library called PETSc at
http://www.mcs.anl.gov/petsc/petsc.html .

Also, be sure to frequently check http://news.freshmeat.net/ for the
latest news on freeware apps.
