The package available at:

ftp://ftp.ds2.pg.gda.pl/pub/mirror/ftp.amg.gda.pl/macro/SRPMS/SVGATextMode-1.8-2.src.rpm

should compile and work out of the box. A binary Alpha package used to be
available at ftp.amg.gda.pl but that site is not operative anymore.

Note that the package is almost two years old and was not tested on a
glibc 2.1 system. I believe it should compile against glibc 2.1 but it
was only compiled against glibc 2.0.
