Bug occurs before any modules are loaded.

I was using gcc version 2.95.2 20000116 (Debian GNU/Linux)

Yes, yesterdays upgrade has gcc version 2.95.2 20000220 (Debian GNU/Linux)
I will try with this, and then gcc-2.7.2.3 and report.
