FYI:
2.3.99-pre1 fails to boot up, get...
VFS: Cannot open root device "341" or 03:41
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 03:41

All is fine at 2.3.51. This is an i586/pci/ide.
Have a i486/no pci/ide compile in progress.
