As far as I can tell eth0 isn't registered with the kernel at all:

| rebecca:/home/jag# cat /var/state/pcmcia/stab
| Socket 0: Psion Gold Card V34 Ethernet
| 0 network pcnet_cs 0
| 0 serial serial_cs 0 ttyS1 4 65
| Socket 1: empty

Normally there's an eth0 in there.

Some hints and tips on which commands I want to run?
And wouldn't this be a workaround instead of a fix?
