I'll chip in my two cents here (on an unrelated problem). I have a
dual P2-333 box with an EEPro100 card. It's currently running 2.3.50;
when I tried to upgrade to 2.3.99-pre5 and -pre6, DHCP (using pump)
timed out while trying to get an address on bootup. There weren't any
errors in the syslog or on console, so I don't have much useful
information. It's an older card (~2 years old); the text from the
last 2.3.50 boot says:

eepro100.c:v1.09j-t 9/29/99 Donald Becker http://cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov/linux/drivers/eepro100.html
eepro100.c: $Revision: 1.29 $ 2000/03/30 Modified by Andrey V. Savochkin <saw@saw.sw.com.sg> and others
eth0: Intel Corporation 82557 [Ethernet Pro 100], 00:A0:C9:1E:0C:80, IRQ 9.
Board assembly 352509-003, Physical connectors present: RJ45
Primary interface chip DP83840 PHY #1.
DP83840 specific setup, setting register 23 to 8462.
General self-test: passed.
Serial sub-system self-test: passed.
Internal registers self-test: passed.
ROM checksum self-test: passed (0x49caa8d6).
Receiver lock-up workaround activated.

Please let me know how I should further diagnose the problem.
If it's any help, I compiled with: gcc version 2.95.2 19991024 (release)

Michael
