We've for the longest time occasionally considered just removing it. Th
enotion of "sleep_on()" is a very simple notion, and people understand
what it's all about, but most of the uses tend to be buggy.

It might be a good idea to remove sleep() altogether during early 2.5.x.
Please remind me. It shouldn't be that painful for most people (but there
are probably tons of drivers that need to be updated and tested - 2.5.x is
definitely the right point to do this).
