I apologize to the list if this message is repeated, recent mail problems
(hopefully now resolved) gave me the impression my first message didn't
make it here.

I have an Adaptec AHA284X VLB scsi controller.

Booting 2.2.16 produced the following error:

(scsi0) <Adaptec AHA-284X SCSI host adapter> found at VLB slot 1

/usr/src/linux/.config SCSI selections:

CONFIG_BLK_DEV_SR=m
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_SR_VENDOR=y
CONFIG_CHR_DEV_SG=m

CONFIG_SCSI_CONSTANTS=y

CONFIG_SCSI_AIC7XXX=y
CONFIG_AIC7XXX_CMDS_PER_DEVICE=8
CONFIG_AIC7XXX_RESET_DELAY=5

The above has worked fine for kernel <= 2.2.14.
I've recompiled twice, using same options. No, I didnt cp over the
old .config from 2.2.14, both recompiles were from freshly untarred
(twice) 2.2.16 src.
Is something else broken, or did I miss something?
