wu-ftpd's ftpwho works on Irix, HP-UX, Solaris and more (perhaps even more
then PostgreSQL). It does not work with Linux 2.3.x ...

PostgreSQL worked with Linux since it's autoconf's check for fcntl is broken
when used with GLibC (kernel bug is fixed in 2.2.16) so it was dependant on
some strange feature of some obscure OS (open(2) file-socket then fcntl(2) it).
If PostgreSQL including such VERY non-portable features I guess it can use some
linuxism as well.
