Hmmm...

This patch makes the "Read subchannel" message disappear...and it seems as
though I can play an audio CD just fine using kscd But, running Railroad Tycoon
(it looks for its CD in the drive repeatedly to try and play audio tracks -
yeah, I know, binary-only software) while this patch is installed and only
while this patch is installed causes the X server (or maybe the video card) to
destabilize in an odd way. It seems to make the X server (or card, a Matrox
G400) try to switch the monitor off in the DPMS fashion by cutting off the video
signal. Moving the mouse or hitting a key wakes it back up. This seems to
happen in clusters of 7 or 8 shutoffs about once every 5 seconds at first,
followed by a minute or two of relative stability - but by the second or third
cluster, the monitor will switch itself off almost instantly and moving the
mouse constantly causes the monitor to go on-off-on-off-on-off....Very funny
stuff. It only starts when I run RT2, but persists long after I kill it.
Restarting the X server doesn't make it any better, the problem continues. I
can't see what the patch could be doing to cause that, but it happens *only*
with that patch.
