Some (if not all) of the security issues can be solved by where the
removalabe media is mounted. If the floppy is mounted at /home/usr/floppy
it should not be accessable to the world.
Many of the issues for floppy drives apply to any removable media, as well
as network file systems and file systems that are not on RAID protected
media. The application program can take steps to make sure that the data
in use can be saved to an alternate location.
After all, some of the same issues on hitting the floppy eject button
could be made for hitting the power button instead of doing a shutdown.
While it would be great if Linux were fool proof, there is a lot more low
hanging fruit to go after before this issues needs this much time and
energy.
