2.4.0test1 (any -ac) hangs at boot with PDC20262

Hi,
I got a problem with a promise PDC20262 and maxtor harddrives:

When I enable the PDC driver in the kernel, and boot it, it hangs just
bevor detecting the maxtor disks.
When using the generic IDE driver I can boot, but the drives operate in
PIO mode:

When booting with the PDC20262 driver the kenel hangs right after the hdb line, i.e.
no info about the maxtors is printed out.

The probem seems to be sensitive to the used board:
It occurs on: asus t2p4 (pentium board) p2b-ds (P2 dual) but NOT on the abit bp6.
(yes. same configuration in the p2b and the bp6, same hw, even same cpu's with
adapter ;)
The problem also seems to be sensitive to master-slave configurations. If I use only master
no slaves, the PDC boots fine. same goes when using a non-maxtor drive as slave or master.
only when both drives on one channel are maxtor, the PDC driver hangs...

here some info on the t2p4:

I allready mailed Andre Hendrik about this, (as the same problem occurs in 2.2.15 with IDE patches),
but I got no response (mail got lost ?)

I would be very thankfull for any informations ...

TIA,
  Michael
