I have ported my "generic IDE tuning" (previous name was "generic ATA
auto-tuning" and was wrong) patch to 2.4.0-test2 + corrected README:
http://republika.pl/bkz/git-10.README
http://republika.pl/bkz/git-10.diff.bz2
Excerpt from git-10.README:
(...)
This patch adds generic IDE tuning. It is against kernel 2.4.0-test2 .
Pros and cons:

+ usually smaller compiled kernel
- code is slightly (unnoticable) slower
- additional entries in hwif_t
(...)
If you can answer some of my nasty questions from git-10.README don't hesistate
to do it... the same applies if you have any comments, problems, suggestions...
Since first announcement I haven't got *any* feedback...
I will appreciate even "Your patch is braindamaged! Go away!"...
