matrox G400 & fbcon problems

I've just switched from a G200 to G400, and I now see fbcon corruption
about once a minute (lines from another console, lines from another
console halfway between lines on the current console, ugly black and
white patters that look very wrong, lines that were previously on
other consoles, you name it I see it).

kernel 2.2.17pre9

CONFIG_FB=y
# CONFIG_FB_PM2 is not set
# CONFIG_FB_ATY is not set
# CONFIG_FB_VESA is not set
# CONFIG_FB_VGA16 is not set
CONFIG_FB_MATROX=y
# CONFIG_FB_MATROX_MILLENIUM is not set
# CONFIG_FB_MATROX_MYSTIQUE is not set
CONFIG_FB_MATROX_G100=y
# CONFIG_FB_MATROX_MULTIHEAD is not set
# CONFIG_FB_VIRTUAL is not set
# CONFIG_FBCON_ADVANCED is not set
CONFIG_FBCON_CFB8=y
CONFIG_FBCON_CFB16=y
CONFIG_FBCON_CFB24=y
CONFIG_FBCON_CFB32=y
# CONFIG_FBCON_FONTWIDTH8_ONLY is not set
CONFIG_FBCON_FONTS=y

I load my kernel as:

To illustrate, I had to press ^L in vim at least 10 times while composing this :-(

Are there patches somewhere? Is this solved in the 2.4.0test-? kernels? I don't know
if I should hope for that, as my isdn-compression is still broken in the 2.4.0 series....
