Ok, enable debug in the cdrom driver and send me the info.
echo 1 > /prov/sys/dev/cdrom/debug
and then run the program. Also, compiling the driver with the debug
patch that Erik sent will give us some info -- I'm not sure it will
be helpful in this case, since ide-cd does recognise the drive as
a changer.
