Hi Marc-Christian,

Thanks for the reply. I made the change and that problem went away. Now however, I die at the next step; i.e.,

make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux/arch/i386/lib'
ld -m elf_i386 -T /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/vmlinux.lds -e stext arch/i386/kernel/head.o arch/i386/kernel/init_task.o init/main.o init/version.o \
        --start-group \

        /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/lib/lib.a /usr/src/linux/lib/lib.a /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/lib/lib.a \
        --end-group \
        -o vmlinux
nm vmlinux | grep -v '\(compiled\)\|\(\.o$\)\|\( [aUw] \)\|\(\.\.ng$\)\|\(LASH[RL]DI\)' | sort > System.map
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot'
ld -m elf_i386 -Ttext 0x0 -s -oformat binary bbootsect.o -o bbootsect
ld: cannot open binary: No such file or directory
make[1]: *** [bbootsect] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot'
make: *** [bzImage] Error 2

I'm using GNU ld version 2.13 and objdump -i shows that binary is
allowed. I tried changing the instances of -oformat binary to
--oformat=binary in arch/i386/Makefile, but the changes seem to be
ignored, which is strange.
