It worked always stable (except when using that r8169). I've tried dd and it didn't crash. I've tried all kinds of other things (like playing games, installing all kinds of stuff, etc.) and it didn't crash.

r8169 works finally with 2.6.5rc2mm5 and your patch (haven't tried 2.6.5rc2mm5 alone). At least it didn't crash so far (transfered GBs through it). Thanks a lot for your help!

No problem. Here it is, so you can find out what exactly might have caused the crash. Hopefully this improvement will find it's way into one of the next main kernel releases.
