Starting Linux EDK development

Hi All,
I want to got for embedded developement and i am new to this area .
I want to know about good tutorials and can i use single mack=hine for development of application ie some kind of device emulator which i can use for linux edk.
I want to first focus my development on intel platform.
Is there any freeware tool like vmware as i have windows as my system and i want to work both windows and linux at the same time.
Please help
