Recent examples: 
- Update availability checkers (e.g. Adept).
- Installation routines of a certain distribution 
  calling all a predefined NTP server instead of pool.ntp.org on first start.

The NTP variant is a clever idea with low traffic and tells
you first usage and usage at all.
