OK, other observations which may or may not have any value:
- I can't trigger the BUG if I build with CONFIG_SMP (which obviously
changes the RCU as well)
- I can't trigger the BUG if I build with CONFIG_DEBUG_SPINLOCK
- the "RPC: fragment too large" errors I mentioned appear to only occur
with a 3.5-rc client; I can't repro them with a 3.4 client
