I think you need to keep track of which compatible is in use. This
is normally done with

{ .compatible = "adi,adgs1408", .data = (void *)ADGS1408, },

etc. And in .probe you'd have code like

chip = (enum chip_type)of_device_get_match_data(dev);
if (!chip)
chip = spi_get_device_id(spi)->driver_data;

And for that to work, you of course also need to name the enumeration and
start it at 1, so that 0 is kept illegal.
