Apparent problem with GCC 2.7.0 and the kernel

I've run into an apparent problem with GCC 2.7.0 and the kernel. This
happens with versions in the 1.3.x series, and with 1.2.8.

Basically, the compile fails at this point:

ld -r -o kernel.o ksyms.o sched.o dma.o fork.o exec_domain.o panic.o
printk.o sys.o module.o exit.o signal.o itimer.o info.o time.o softirq.o
resource.o

Running that yields a segmentation fault. I'm using binutils-2.5.2l.19,
which I went to in the frail attempt to fix the problem, assuming a bug
in 2.5.2l.17, and GCC 2.7.0. This happens both with ELF and aout compiles.

Am I unique in this problem? I could compile the kernel before upgrading
to GCC 2.7.0. (it worked with 2.6.3). The bug does occur consistantly,
with and without the makefile.

Thanks, and appologies if it isn't appropriate here. I've only seen it
happen with the kernel, though.
