Emacs problem.

I've mailed these lists about this before. I have a functioning elf system
with kernel 1.3.10, gcc 2.7.0, libc 5.2.3, libg++2.7.0.1 (or something like
that), and have all the latest programs/utilities/system-components compile
by myself. I have absolutely no problems with any of them (including
terminfo/termcap/curses programs) EXCEPT for emacs 19.29. I compile with
minimal warnings issued, start the program, and get the screen as pictured
below (running on the console, not X). As you can see, the status bar is
off center. It is off by this amount with 25 or 50 line screens, and with
as many values for TERM as I can think of (linux, vt100, vt220, etc..) I
have up-to-date termcap and terminfo databases.

If I'm an idiot then fine... please let me know. I am a fairly competent
computer science major and this problem is driving me nuts (as well as
slowing my work). Can anyone tell me what's going on?

Michael
